Earle W. JORDAN Weds Montana Girl At Brother's Home Here

ringsSouth Portland, June 12, 1952 – The marriage of Miss Lorene Girton, Great Falls, Montana, and Earle W. Jordan, Detroit, Michigan, formerly of South Portland, took place Monday evening at the home of his brother  and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Jordan, Sawyer Street. The Rev. Lawrence D. Porter of Peoples’ Methodist Church officiated at the single ring ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Jordan attended the couple.

The bride wore a navy blue and grey wool suit, with navy blue accessories and a red rose corsage. Mrs. Charles S. Jordan’s suit was of navy blue wool and she wore matching accessories and a corsage of red roses. An informal reception followed the ceremony at the Jordan home, with Mrs. Carl A. Libby in charge of the guest book. Jordan, a native of South Portland, is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Jordan of Cape Elizabeth, and attended the local schools. He has been in Detroit for three years, and is employed by the Crowley Millinery Company. The couple will leave Thursday for Detroit to make their home.

~ Wedding Announcement in South Portland, Maine Newspaper, 1952

genealogyWhat's in a Name?

In the wedding announcement Lorene's last name was possibly a married name, her maiden name is ARGERBRIGHT. Family stories places her in at least three marrages other than to Earle (note: his spelling was with and without the extra e), two of the marriages were to the same person, and she left a son and daughter in the care of her ex-husband and sister, who married her ex-husband. Quite a web to untangle in my genealogy quest.

I have not found a marriage record for Charles E. JORDAN and Elizabeth B. BOLTON yet. There are four children listed on the 1920 Census for South Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, but on Earle W. JORDAN's birth record it states he is the 5th child born to their union; I did find an older daughter which Elizabeth had prior to their marriage.
